Mission Statement
To promote the importance of protecting and maintaining a
healthy, native tree canopy.
People for Trees, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group that began
in 1997 as a grass-roots effort by citizens concerned about the
destruction of our tree canopy, largely due to development.
Accomplishments
- * 305 street trees planted along N. Salford Blvd.
(in partnership with the City of North Port)
- “Tree Blitz 2009” (50 trees planted at North Port schools)
- Our Annual Tree Festival (Since 1999)
- * “Florida-friendly” Landscape & Tree Clinics
- *Monthly “ Eco-Kids Club” programs
- * Annual “Eco-Kids Blast!” at Dallas White Park
- *“Circle of Trees” planted at North Port High School
- * Commemorative Tree Walk along Tamiami Trail
- * Tree plantings at the Garden of the Five Senses
- * “Florida-friendly” Yards Tour
- * “Kids Garden” at the Boys & Girls Club
- * Drought-tolerant landscaping installed at the North Port YMCA
- Assisting with school Ecology Clubs
- * “Tree-mendous” library programs for children
- *Speaker Programs
- * Hikes along the Myakkahatchee Creek
- * Annual NPHS senior scholarship award
- * Six city streets “adopted” for clean-ups
- Provide ongoing assistance and advice for residents on matters relating to trees and other environmental issues
- Designed and planted a butterfly garden/native tree walk at Lamarque Elementary School in partnership with our local Home Depot.
